My, my, my.... this book had me doing anything to not put it down. WOW! I loved it and I do not normally like thrillers but just yes to the plot, the characters, to the author, just yes. Let me not get too carried away, here is the full review...

As I mentioned above, not a fan of thriller books except if it is a movie, where I can yell at the screen, for the unnecessary actions of the characters. However, this book made me change my mind on the genre, especially in romance.

The introduction for the readers begins at a crime scene, giving us this foreboding sense, that maybe this case can end up unsolved, emotional or even down right dirty, as it creates a space for us to become attached to the plot development. The book then takes you through a racially divided community and how outdated their views are of each other. Kenya writes in such a way that you hold on tight the very next word, sentence or paragraph as the investigation carries us through each person involved, waiting to see where a love story can possibly be placed in such a heart-breaking story within this fictitious community.

When the romance came, it had such a sense of realism and genuine feel for the readers. It did not upstage the investigation, but Kenya allowed it to enhance our experience of the plot and development of the characters and their personal involvement and views of the case. The romance intertwines and offers a subtlety that is as beautiful as it is compelling.

I have every respect for how this novel was written as the pace was in sync and as close to a natural rhythm of how things would instinctively flow in a real-life investigation and process. The mere fact the readers were not led to focus on the lead character's ethnicity was refreshing. It allowed us to want more of the characters relationship and give us a reason to respect his work ethic and how he carried himself in the face of such racist views playing havoc on solving such a sensitive case.

The twist near the end, was such a shock, did not see it coming but again I must say this book kept you on your toes, just bleeding creativity and profound care of tackling such an issue within the black community and how it is seen and handled throughout the American society. We must never forget to care for our black girls, they are forever important!

In saying all this, the ending was sweet and such a change of pace. The gentleness of the final character development and their coming together, in the end, made the whole story, investigation and racial divide worth it. The conclusion was such a bonus light at the end of the tunnel, all romances readers love to see, in achieving a sweet reminder that love is such a wonderful and powerful emotion.

This is one of my favourite books, that I must recommend and eventually to re-read. I encourage you all to go pick it up on amazon kindle or paperback, just go and read. It is a must!

Happy reading!!!
